Black and white

I am redecorating my bedroom and thought I would hang up some black and white pictures.  I only need three.  I just can't decide which three to use.  What do you think?

The power of Prayer

Have you ever prayed for something every single day?  You wanted it so bad and you knew it was right.  It felt right because it was right.  Well a few weeks ago I walked through The Montessori Elementary School on Montano and 4th street.  I had been to a few other open houses for the Montessori schools and they didn't feel right.  This place felt right.  There are 50 students in each grade level.
They teach the Suzuki music method along with Montessori.  I learned the Suzuki method at age 5 on the piano.  I loved it.  I could play songs and actually enjoyed learning to play. The piano was my first love of music.  Each child choses either the violin or the cello.
This Montessori school is highly sought after.  It is a public charter school, so most people in town want their children to attend.  After talking with many teachers and the principal, I knew I wanted Edward to go to this school.  There were well over 200 parents in attendance.  After I came home, I called my parents and asked them to fast with me on Sunday.  They did.  I asked Edward to pray.  He did.  I prayed morning and night.
The lottery drawing was held on Thursday.  Edward and I went down to watch the drawing; however, Edward quickly got bored, so we left.  I called Friday morning to find out if they had already let the parents know.  They hadn't.  The school secretary said she would call all the parents by 4:00.  If you didn't get a call, you didn't get in.
3:00 rolled around and my phone finally rang while I was upstairs.  Edward got in!! His name was drawn.  Out of less than 50 spots available and more than 200 potential students, Edward's name was drawn!!!  I returned the phone call in tears.  This was the happiest news I have ever received.  I cried to Stephen and my parents.  Sometimes, amidst the hardest trials, Heavenly Father shines a bit of light in the darkness.  Just when I think He has forgotten my plight.  A simple prayer was answered.  Edward will be attending the Montessori Elementary School this Fall.  He wants to learn the Cello.  He has wanted to learn the Cello since he was 3.  He is so bright.  I know this is the right place for him.  I know it.  By default, this school will also become Nolen's school.  This school is equipped to handle him and I know it will be the right place for Nolen as well.  There are certainly more trials to come and I know the school will not be easy; however, I am so happy to know that Heavenly Father thinks of me and my little trials.  We are on to new adventures.  I can't wait!  Have a happy weekend!

Happy 5th birthday to my little man, Edward!

5! F I V E! Today, Edward is five.  I can not believe how fast he has grown up.  The first year of his life seemed to last forever.  Now, in the blink of an eye, he is 5.  He is growing up so fast.  He is no longer a baby, or a toddler, or even a pre-schooler.  He is a boy.  Or, as I call him, "My little Man".
Edward loves Hot wheels.  I am starting to believe that may never change.  He loves cars.  He loves everything to do with anything with wheels.  He has recently been getting in to Legos, so we shall see how long it lasts.  I bought him a few Lego cars for his birthday.
Edward is vivacious.  He loves to laugh and be loud.  He plays hard and sleeps hard.  He can still be very sassy.  He loves his long hair.  He never wants it to be cut.  Surprisingly, it is always me forcing him to cut his hair.  Edward loves his pre-school class with Ms. Lisa.  He is friends with everyone in his class.  He loves to play.  He loves to pretend.  He still begs for Stephen or I to play with him all day long.  Most importantly, he loves to play with Nolen.  Those two do everything together.  I am so happy.  Last year, I didn't think it would be possible.  My heart was broken.  This year, the two are virtually inseparable.  I do not know what Nolen will do when Edward goes to kindergarten in the Fall.   Edward loves to play with marbles and model cars.  He says he is not ready for a pedal bike and still loves his strider, although he is nearly too big for it now.
Edward still loves to eat.  He will eat anything.  Sushi, eggs and toast, hot dogs, quinoa, sea weed, and so many other exotics foods I would have never dreamed of eating as a child.  He is usually good company for anyone he is around.  He has such a sweet, loving disposition.  I really hope it sticks.  Edward is caring, compassionate, and fiercely loyal.  His best friend is still Sapphire, who lives all the way across town.
I love my sweet little Edward.  He is the boy who made me a Mom.  He changed the course of my life forever.  This little man has become one of the most important people in my life.  I am forever grateful for the opportunity to be his mother.  He is amazing.
I love you, Edward Forrest Barnes.
Happy 5th Birthday!

It's a snowy day

Here in Albuquerque, we get all kinds of weather.  We see snow, sleet, rain, heat, and wind.  Lots of wind.  This is one of the most beautiful places I have lived in my life.  Finding friends here is difficult; however, the weather is amazing.  If you are looking for a new city, check out what Albuquerque has to offer.  With that in mind, it snowed last night and Nolen really wanted to build a snowman after watching Disney's Frozen.  The snow was not wet enough to make a snowman, unfortunately, so we just played instead.  Happy February!  Oh, and I was going to turn on the sprinklers, so glad I hesitated.
