Dining room art

I wanted something that would be interesting, eye appealing, and cheap. I saw a beautiful painting on pinterest and loved it. Too bad it was over $300 for the art piece. I decided to paint it myself. It took a little ingenuity but I think I did ok.

My sweet Edward is 3 1/2 today.  I just can't believe is so big now!  He has started to do some amazing things lately.  He shows his maturity every once in a while and then I think, this baby stage doesn't last forever.  He went potty all by himself yesterday!  Wow.  Now if I could just get him to poop on the potty.
Edward has started to understand concepts more and more these days.  He can name each letter by sight and make the sound for each letter.  He counts perfectly to 20 and can draw in a straight line.  He has started to trace letters and numbers.
Edward has taken a real interest in the solar system.  Something I know nothing about.  I have researched the planets an tried to memorize where they are and how our solar system works so that I can show him all the really cool things.  I think a telescope would be a perfect 3.5 birthday present.
Edward has started to get back in to Cars the movie.  He wants to play, "Cars 2" and still loves his hot wheels more than anything.
As you can see from the pictures, he still loves his blanket, although; just the other day he said, "This blanket is old." HA!  It's the same age as him!  How funny.
You can still see some spots still remain from the Hand, Foot, and Mouth.  Edward usually gets the worst of the colds and I think it might have to do with the fact that he spent an unnecessary week in the NICU when he was born.  He was on antibiotics for a week when most babies who aspirate meconium are only on antibiotics for three days.  I believe he has a weak immune system.
Edward can ride the scooter all by himself and has become much more independent.  Edward has also started saying, "I love you, Mom." and has started to understand what it means.  He is very stubborn.  He knows exactly what he likes and what he doesn't.  He has become more articulate and can express himself with out crying.
Edward is such a joy in my life.  I love this little boy with "crazy" hair and deep blue eyes.  He is so handsome.  He behaves and is kind to his little brother.  I know I say this all the time, but time really does fly by.  I don't want to miss a single moment of his life.
I love you, Edward!  Happy Half Birthday!

PS Here is a cute smily picture of Nolen.

A tribute to Kitty the dog

Today, Kitty was run over by someone driving through my parents property.  My sister is devastated.  Edward and I made a little tribute video to sweet little Kitty.

Some people are just pathetic! I posted a picture a few posts below of Nolen bouncing on his new yellow ball.  He was naked. You couldn't see anything, but below the picture I captioned it with, "One naked boy".  Guess what... some perverts googled searched naked boys and made their way to MY blog!  GROSS!  Lesson learned... and for those that post pictures with a caption... be cautious of what you write.

PS That one post got over 100 views. SICK!

Hmf disease

Edward and Nolen have been sick for the last three weeks. First a cold which lead to an ear infection for both boys then we rounded out our summer illness with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease. Edward always seems to get the worst of it, poor kid. Just in case you want to see what the painful blisters look like, I am posting them for you. Ha!

I'm not a super model...

I may not be a model or even an average daily beauty, but I am a Mom.

I was given strong arms to encircle my boys with love.

I was given strong legs to carry my boys when they are too tired to walk.

I carried two children inside my womb for 9 months and, to me, that is better than a six pack.

I was given eyes to see the beauty in all things, especially my lovely boys who shine bright as the sun.

I was given a loving smile to laugh with my boys when they are happy and smile when my boys need to know I care.

As women we are told by the world that we need to have the perfect body.  We need to be tan, and skinny with long, luscious eyelashes, and have the perfect haircut to go with our awesome outfit.  I can't listen to this any more.  I am posting these pictures to show my imperfections, yet, no matter how imperfect the world thinks my body is, my boys know different.  My body can do amazing things.  I push them in the double jogging stroller uphill to the park with my strong legs.  I carry two tired boys out of Explora after hours of fun.  I can lift my boys on to counters and throw them on the bed to make them laugh.  My body is truly amazing. It is a gift from God.
 The flaws make us human.
I am so grateful that I am healthy and can do many things with my average looking body.  Today, I am blessed.  Today, I am grateful.

I love you, Edward and Nolen Barnes.
Love, Mom.

Our August...

Well we are almost completely moved in to our new home.  It seems like it didn't take us too long to make this house a home and once I put up some pictures this placed really started to feel like home.  Both my boys have Hand, Food, and Mouth disease right now, so we are home bound for the next week, at least.  Anyhow, here are a few pictures of our decorated home and of the boys enjoying their summer.  I love summer and I am SO sad to see it ending so fast!!  Stay warm just a few months more, please!
After I took this picture, Nolen fell down the stairs, so we put up another gate.

I took down the window coverings because they were too dangerous.
 Below is the finished product.

Eating apples from our very own apple tree!

Trying to get the boys to pose in front of the stingray.  It didn't work.

Brilynn and Edward.

Dad playing in the dirt pit with the boys.

Our summer tradition... 20 Popsicles a day!

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

I finally finished the book.  Check out my review here.

"That guy is dressed for church in the wilderness."  Spoken by Edward as we watched Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos.
