Adventures in Essential Oils by DoTerra

DoTerra Essential Oils is a company that sales 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.  I have always been a bit sceptical about so-called "naturalpathic" home remedies, so I decided to test them for myself.  You will find regular updates here about what has worked and what hasn't worked for my family.

First Attempt:  Slim & Sassy

For my first project, I decided I would do something that I could see real results with out mistaking them for some other odd phenomenon.  Now for the embarrassing part... stats.

Measurements as of August 1, 2011: Waist 30.5 inches; Hips 36 inches; Left Thigh 22.5 inches; Weight 141.8 pounds

Week 1 Results:  Weight: 140.4 pounds!  Also, I discovered this stuff tastes better in just plain old water.  I like the way I feel when I drink it.  I am not nearly as hungry and I actually feel more awake after getting about 5 hours of sleep.  Also, I do work out 5 to 6 days a week; however, I have been running and lifting weights since January and haven't had much luck with weight loss until I started drinking Slim & Sassy.  We shall see how next week turns out...

Week 2 Results: Weight: 142.4 pounds. (insert sad face)  I didn't miss a single day of drinking the slim and sassy, I did; however, miss two days of working out and substituted my work out with Red Robin and Dominoes Pizza.  Whoops.  Well on to next week.

Week 3 Results: 141.0 pounds.  This was a much better week for me.  I didn't miss a single work out; however, I did go out to eat twice.  I ate at yummy Senor Dog and had half a Wendy's chicken Sandwich.  I continue to believe the Slim & Sassy has curbed my appetite as I would have normally eaten all of my chicken sandwich and a box of fries; however, I simply wasn't hungry so I didn't finish it.

Week 4 Results: 139.4 pounds.  I did eat out once this week but I didn't miss a single work out.  I was very careful of what I ate and I added more slim and sassy to my water and just drank it all day.  I have to admit, I wanted just a regular glass of water part way through the day because the citrus was becoming a bit strong for me to drink.  This is the end of the month project for me so here are my stats as of September 1st, 2011.  Waist: 29 3/4 inches, Hips: 35 3/4 inches, Thigh 22 3/4 inches.  Not sure if I measured correctly as my thighs got bigger?  But overall I lost about an inch all over my body.  Not bad for one month.  Stay tuned for more results.

January 1st, 2012: 132.4 pounds.  I have been working really hard and the results are showing.  I hardly miss a day of my slim and sassy.  I still love it!
Second Attempt:  Frankincense and Melaleuca
August 5, 2011
I realize this is the least flattering picture I will ever post of myself; however, this picture proves the point: My skin needs help.  I have been battling acne since I was 14 years old.  My skin looks its best when I am pregnant; however, I do not plan to ever be pregnant again, so I need to come up with a new way to cleanse and clear my face.  I will update weekly, so come back and find out how my skin looks next Friday.
August 12, 2011
Wow, I can seriously see a huge difference with my skin this week.  This is my face with ZERO make-up and it looks great.  This is probably the best my skin has looked since I gave birth to Nolen.  There are still some uneven spots and a handful of zits; however, my complexion does seem to be improving!  Stay tuned for next week.

August 19, 2011

My skin is getting better but just like missing my work outs I missed two days of adding the oils to my skin regimen.  Things don't look worse, luckily, but they don't necessarily look better.

August 26, 2011

Wow, my skin is seriously looking amazing.  My skin tone is even and my freckles are even fading, if that is at all possible. I continue to love the blend of frankincense and Melaleuca.  I haven't seen a difference in my wrinkles, but at this point I am just glad to see the zits starting to go away and to have an even skin tone.  It still baffles me that putting "OIL" on my skin is actually good as we are led to believe by the make-up industry that "OIL" is bad.  Frankincense is 100% worth the $70 dollar price tag in my book.
September 2, 2011
I can not say enough good things about the frankincense.  My skin looks so much better than it has in the past.  It is still not perfect but I don't feel the need to wear tons of make-up just to go grocery shopping.  I feel like my skin can hold its' own now and I just need some mascara.  If you are considering trying any product, I would advise the frankincense.  It is just amazing.  I love it.

January 1st, 2012

I wanted to update my adventures with Coconut oil and Frankincense.  I LOVE IT.  My skin has been getting many compliments.  I have never been complimented on my skin tone.  It has always been blotchy and covered with acne.  This really works.  I recommend it to everyone I meet.

Third Attempt:  DigestZen

This is an oil blend that is supposed to cure common stomach ailments.  I am primarily planning to use this DAILY on Nolen.  He seems to have pretty bad tummy problems that keep him up at night.  If Nolen sleeps through the night ever again, then this product will be partly responsible.

Week 1 Results:  Nothing happened with Nolen.  Still not sleeping and still has bad gas.  I will keep trying, but I don't think this product is right for him unless he can drink it and infants shouldn't drink the oils.

Week 2 Results:  Worse than week one.  Nolen is getting teeth, so I need to figure something else out.  We are still not sleeping.

Week 3 Results:  It seems unfair to continue degrading the use of DigestZen when Nolen has so many other issues going on with him right now.  He is finally getting teeth and that is really stopping him from sleeping.  I actually put the DigestZen in his bottle last night and he didn't really want to drink it and I am unsure if it really helped as he woke up twice.

Week 4 Results:  Nolen had the flu this week.

Fourth Attempt: Breathe, Lavender, and Serenity

These three oils are supposed to help with Sleep.  Something we don't seem to get enough of around this house.  I currently do not own serenity; however, I intend to purchase it this week.  Stephen suffers from insomnia and I suspect Nolen does as well.  If Stephen sleeps from 12-8 restfully, I will give all the credit to these three oils.

Week 1 Results:  Nolen slept the first two nights of the week.  I gave him a bath with lavender and then rubbed some on his feet, (this is the best place for infants and it absorbs quickly), and I even put a drop in his humidifier.  He slept really good the first two nights and then the last 5 nights have been worse.  Still on the fence.

Week 2 Results: Nolen and Edward are both getting teeth.  Edward has surgery next week and I am hoping the Lavender will help keep him calm.  Not sure if anything is working on the boys.

Week 3 Results:  I put OnGuard in both boys Humidifiers last night because it seemed like they were getting runny noses and that is the last thing I want.  Edward is sleeping better with the Lavender bath's and I know he will sleep even better as he had tubes put in his ears yesterday.  Nolen... um... the jury is still out.

Week 4 Results:  The boys runny noses only lasted that one day, so the OnGuard worked; however, Nolen got the stomach flu.  So, of course he didn't sleep at all.  AND he is teething.  ugh.
Come back weekly to check for updates.  I plan to have some astonishing results as of next Friday.  If you are interested in purchasing oils you can click the link at the top of the page or just give me a call at 928-279-8287.
