Every year we head up to Sipapu Ski lodge for a high altitude training camp with Cougar Track club. This year was no different. Ok, well it was a little different. I booked our room back in July then I got an email saying they didn't have a room for us. I called three different times to confirm our room. Finally, I got confirmation over the phone but we didn't get to stay in the lodge as planned. That was fine. That just meant we had no wifi and had to walk a long way back to our room. No big deal. We had a blast all weekend!
Friday night we ran a few hills in the trees for our run.
Friday night, we had smores with the team!
We got up early Saturday morning so we could run UP the ski hill! It is always great fun waking up children to do something extremely difficult. My boys have truly learned they can do hard things from running with cougar track.
They boys played a fun team builder game with a bunch of their friends from the team. They took a few funny photos with my phone!
Saturday afternoon we went on another short run down a beautiful dirt road and back. It is so beautiful in the mountains of New Mexico.
Saturday night we watched a movie with the team but I was too tired to make it through the movie so we headed back to our room to sleep, or so I thought.
I got half way ready for bed and as I was laying next to Stephen watching him play Zelda a fly FLEW INTO my EAR!
I screamed. A loud terrifying scream. It was so unbelievable. It started burrowing deeper and deeper in a matter of seconds.
I yelled for Stephen to kill the fly. I screamed for him to get the tweezers in my cosmetic back. He ran in and grabbed them. No luck. The fly was already too deep. He tried to LITERALLY suck the fly out of my ear.
NO LUCK.
Every time the fly buzzed my whole body shook. It was awful. I would never wish that on my worst enemy (not that I have any)! We ran in to the bathroom and I stuck my head under the faucet to try to flush it out.
NO LUCK!
Then he looked up on his phone how to get the fly out of my ear. It said baby oil. So I messaged a few people on the team to see if they had baby oil. No one answered. After a few REALLY intense minutes the fly stopped moving. It must have died from being drowned by water.
Then with mascara running down my face, I brushed my teeth, washed my face and went to bed. I just laid there all night knowing the fly was in my head.
I woke up early (or just got up because who can sleep knowing a fly is dead in their ear) and got the boys up for our last run up at Sipapu.
We ran with the team, grabbed breakfast and high tailed it down the mountain back to Albuquerque. We made it in record time. Stephen dropped me off at Urgent Care where I underwent the most PAINFUL procedure to get the fly out of my ear.
The nurse used water and peroxide in a spray bottle with a tiny long straw at the end. She filled up the water bottle three times before the fly came out. Every time she pulled the spay bottle trigger, I cringed. It hurt terribly!
It finally came out. AH! Now my ear is throbbing and I need a serious nap.
Sipapu is always my favorite time of year. I am so glad we get to go up and run as a family. These are the times I cherish.
By the way, when you picture your "Knight in shining armor", please, don't picture a man ridding up on a white horse slaying a dragon to save you. No, picture a man who would do just about anything to get a fly out of your ear, including trying to suck it out. I am seriously blessed! My husband is one of the best on this planet!
